My Reading Pile {6}

Book Haul 6

I did end up receiving a number of awesome books in the mailbox and email box the other week after writing and scheduling last week’s post early. As there were so many books that showed up, I decided to stay up late and schedule this before heading off to sea instead of waiting until the 15th to post. Because it’s very possible I’ll have received a few more books by then and I can’t fit any more books in this pic.

I received a set of books from a series that’s absolutely amazing, a couple of books for giveaway along with finished copies for my collection – both of which I read and loved – and two ARCs – one I’m dying to read and one I’m told I must read. I also received and grabbed a number of eGalleys that I can’t wait to get onto the pile.

Once again my wishful thinking read is one of the books I received this week. But as I have a couple of review books I’ll need to read before their release date later this month I’m going to have to wait to add it to the pile.

WHAT I’M READING THIS WEEK: November 9th – November 15th, 2014

Suspicion CoverSUSPICION by Alexandra Monir

Release date: December 9, 2014
Source: Publisher via NetGalley

Why it’s on this week’s pile:

I fell in love with this cover the moment I saw it. And once I read the description I just had to request it. I did not expect to get the opportunity to read it early. So there’s no way I’m going to pass up the chance to do so.

Mysterious. Magnificent. Creepy. Welcome to Rockford Manor.

“There’s something hidden in the Maze.” Seventeen-year-old Imogen has never forgotten the last words her father said to her seven years ago, before the blazing fire that consumed him, her mother, and the gardens of her family’s English country manor.

Haunted by her parents’ deaths, Imogen moves to New York City with her new guardians. But when a letter arrives with the news of her cousin’s untimely death, revealing that Imogen is now the only heir left to run the estate, she returns to England and warily accepts her role as duchess.

All is not as it seems at Rockford, and Imogen quickly learns that dark secrets lurk behind the mansion’s aristocratic exterior, hinting that the spate of deaths in her family were no accident. And at the center of the mystery is Imogen herself–and Sebastian, the childhood friend she has secretly loved for years. Just what has Imogen walked into?

Combining a fresh twist on the classic REBECCA with a spine-tingling mystery and powerful romance, SUSPICION is an action-packed thrill ride.

Fall with Me CoverFALL WITH ME (Wait for You #4) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Release date: March 31, 2015
Source: Publisher via Edelweiss

Why it’s on this week’s pile:

Because ohmygosh I can’t wait any longer. I have to read this next book in the Wait for You series. I read the previous book super early and I am jonesing for my JLA New Adult fix.

Eleven months ago, bartender and weird-shirt-wearing extraordinaire Roxy and Officer Reece Anders had a one night stand. Well, kind of. She’s been in love with him since she was fifteen, and he wishes that night they shared never happened. She’s sworn him off forever, but the past and future collide, forcing her to rely on the one man who broke her heart not once, but twice.

Her best friend since birth has been in a long-term care facility since he became a victim of a hate crime years ago, and the person who put him in there is out of prison and wanting to make amends with him and Roxy. She’s not sure she has room for forgiveness in her and when she begins to receive frightening messages and is on the receiving end of escalating violence, she thinks she knows who is to blame. The man who already destroyed one life already.

But Reece isn’t convinced. The threats are too personal, and even if Roxy doesn’t believe him, he’s not willing to let anyone hurt her. Including himself. He’s already messed up more than once when it comes to Roxy and he’s not going to let history repeat itself.

Half WildHALF WILD (Half Bad #2) by Sally Green
Release date: March 24, 2015

Why it’s only a wish:

I love, love, loved the first book in this series. It was so different and amazing and memorable. The way things ended left me dying to read HALF WILD. But because it’s not a review book and it doesn’t release for almost five months, it can only be a wishful thinking read.

“You will have a powerful Gift, but it’s how you use it that will show you to be good or bad.”

In a modern-day England where two warring factions of witches live amongst humans, seventeen-year-old Nathan is an abomination, the illegitimate son of the world’s most powerful and violent witch. Nathan is hunted from all sides: nowhere is safe and no one can be trusted. Now, Nathan has come into his own unique magical Gift, and he’s on the run–but the Hunters are close behind, and they will stop at nothing until they have captured Nathan and destroyed his father.

Because I’ve written and scheduled this before I started reading the books from last week’s pile, I’m not entirely sure what I read, reviewed or left behind. I did manage to write and schedule a few more posts, and write a review for a last-minute tour I found out that I’d be on while I’m away. But I’m going to assume that I wasn’t very productive this past week. Here’s the partial rundown:

What I Read & Reviewed

  • Finished Reading: SAFER OFFSHORE by Ed Mapes
  • Currently Reading: SUBLIME by Christina Lauren
  • Currently Reading: NOW THAT YOU’RE HERE by Amy K. Nichols
  • Up Next: COMPULSION by Martina Boone
  • Reviewed: WILD by Sophie Jordan (review to post 11/10)

What I Hope to Review This Week

  • THE FIGURES OF BEAUTY by David MacFarlane – reading and loving it
  • NOW THAT YOU’RE HERE by Amy K. Nichols – just read a few pages and I know it’s going to rock
  • SUBLIME by Christina Lauren – so far I’m intrigued

What Was Left Behind

  • Not yet reviewed: THE WALLED CITY by Ryan Graudin
  • Still not yet read: THE WINNER’S CRIME by Marie Rutkoski
  • Still reading: THE FIGURES OF BEAUTY by David MacFarlane (a non-YA title)
  • Still not yet reviewed: THE GIFTED DEAD by Jenna Black (a non-YA title)

I hope I’ll be able to review all three of the books I’m currently reading. I’m not sure if I’ll have finished them by the time this posts, but I should be able to finish them shortly after, if I haven’t.

If I’m not too tired when I get back I hope I’ll be able to tackle a few more reviews for books I’d read ages ago along with the ones I am hoping to finish reading this week. But maybe it’s too much to hope for.

There are only a few of interest finds on NetGalley this week since it’s only been a couple of days since I checked for last week’s post. Since I went a bit crazy with eARCs elsewhere, I somehow managed to resist putting in any requests. Are there any that tempt you?

Do you create a reading pile?

If so, what’s in your reading pile this week?

Rachel (a.k.a. Fiktshun) has been blogging about (mostly YA) books since 2010. She always has and always will believe that reading YA rocks and thinks she's found the perfect place to ramble here at RYAR.
