A sweeping historical romance about a witch who foresees her own murder–and the one boy who can help change her future.

Sixteen-year-old Avery Roe wants only to take her rightful place as the witch of Prince Island, making the charms that keep the island’s whalers safe at sea, but her mother has forced her into a magic-free world of proper manners and respectability. When Avery dreams she’s to be murdered, she knows time is running out to unlock her magic and save herself.

Avery finds an unexpected ally in a tattooed harpoon boy named Tane–a sailor with magic of his own, who moves Avery in ways she never expected. Becoming a witch might stop her murder and save her island from ruin, but Avery discovers her magic requires a sacrifice she never prepared for.

I am super excited to be able to share an awesome excerpt for my stop on the SALT & STORM Blog Tour hosted by Rockstar Book Tours. I can’t wait for this  book to release next week so that I can meet Avery and Tane. Magic and witches and sailors sounds like a perfectly delectable read and after having read this short excerpt I just know I’m going to love it.

Excerpt_RYARWe walked in silence after that. The sun still climbed higher, drying my clothes salt-stiff, and we said nothing, Tane’s hand firmly around mine, our eyes set ahead for the first signs of New Bishop. There was so much to think about and yet my mind failed to focus on anything beyond the feel of Tane’s hand and the soft sand under my feet.

When the town came into view he told me he would have to leave me, that it would draw too much attention for us to be seen together but that he would find me, he would figure something out to keep me safe.

“I’ll keep you safe.” That’s what he said. I wanted to believer it was true, so I nodded.

“You wondered why I care for you,” he said, holding my face between his palms. “It’s because you’re stronger than anyone I’ve ever met. Be strong.”

He kissed me, a kiss so sweet that it warmed all the parts of me that had grown cold on our long walk, and I closed my eyes and kissed him back, lacing my fingers behind his neck and holding on, and with his hands pressing hard against me, I never wanted it to stop, I never wanted it to end. Shut the door and lock me away in that moment forever.

But it did end; he pulled away and handed me my boots and left me to walk through the streets of New Bishop alone.
